It’s time to share good news in our synod because EIGHT of our congregations/ministries have been announced as ELCA World Hunger Daily Bread grant recipients in the past year. Daily Bread Matching Grants are $500 matching grants from ELCA World Hunger that support ELCA congregational feeding ministries, helping them provide daily bread for neighbors in need and strengthen their fundraising for a more sustainable future. These grants are available to ELCA congregations with existing feeding ministries and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, especially in response to increased need due to challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and rising food insecurity. (Stay alert to announcements of another round of grant availability, often in the fall of the year.)

These eight congregations/efforts are also sources of information/encouragement/education/ and collaboration as you consider new or expanded local hunger efforts yourselves. One of these recipients could be in your neighborhood and might be a site you would want to visit or contact to learn more. They are:

  • Bethlehem in the Midway, St. Paul
  • Christo Rey, New Brighton
  • Cross, Maplewood
  • Shobi’s Table, St. Paul
  • Zion, Chisago City
  • Augustana, West St. Paul
  • Chisago Lake, Center City
  • Faith, Forest Lake
  • Gustavus Adolphus, St. Paul
  • Our Savior’s, Circle Pines

In addition, Shobi’s Table received an ELCA World Hunger Domestic Hunger Grant with funding for three years. This important ministry of our synod has received Domestic Hunger grants previously and this renewed grant prove the value of their ministry. By supporting these ministries, we, who are part of the ELCA, work together to live out Christ’s call to feed the hungry and work toward a just world where all are fed.
