Mobility & Call
The ELCA call process engages pastors and deacons in thoughtful assessment and spiritual discernment of how God may be calling them together in mutual ministry “for the sake of the mission and ministry of the church.”
Tools for the ELCA Call Process
The ELCA provides tools for the management of the call process. These tools encourage pastors, deacons and ministry sites to focus on mission, while also allowing for creativity, reflection and initiative. These tools are found and best explored on the ELCA website at www.elca.org/call-process. On that site, pastors and deacons will find mobility forms that have been “designed and crafted to work together with a churchwide mobility database that will store the forms.”
The Rostered Minister Profile (RMP) is designed for use by all pastors, deacons and first call candidates. The form encourages rostered ministers to reflect on their calling and gifts, be creative about sharing their passions and interests in ministry, and be discerning about their readiness for call. Learn more at elca.org/Call-Process/Rostered-Ministers. This form requires an outside recommendation and provides for optional reflections that will allow the individual to enhance their profile.
Call Process Manual
The Saint Paul Area Synod’s Call Process Manual is a helpful tool for congregational use throughout a time of leadership transition. The manual is divided into four sections:
- Phase 1 – Leave Taking
- Phase 2 – Interim & Transition Team
- Phase 3 – The Call Process
- Phase 4 – Beginning New Ministry
Invitation to Partner
Whether you are a ministry site faithfully moving through a time of transition or a pastor or deacon prayerfully listening to the stirrings of the Spirit, the synod staff is available to help you during the call process. We only ask that you thoughtfully assess and spiritually discern how and where God is calling you into mutual ministry for the sake of the mission and ministry of the church. If you have questions about using these forms or the process, please contact Deacon Krista Lind at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 651-224-4313.
