Domestic Mission
The Saint Paul Area Synod supports the work and ministries of congregations right here in the eastern Twin Cities. A variety of programs and activities bolster congregational vitality, financially support fledgling missions, and coach effective stewardship practices. These tools for the church offer support for faith communities to learn, develop and thrive.
Mission Starts & Redevelopments
In collaboration with the ELCA churchwide organization, the Saint Paul Area Synod lives out the calling to go and make disciples. This happens through mission developments, which are also known as synod-authorized worshiping communities (SAWCs), strategic ministries (ethnic specific congregations) and redevelopments. Currently, the Saint Paul Area Synod supports nine ministries that fall under these categories with new explorations on the horizon.
Congregational Vitality
The work of congregational vitality helps congregations answer the question, “Who are we called to be at this time and place?” Because each congregation is unique in who they are and where they serve, the tools and processes of congregational vitality are flexible, contextual and always evolving. Congregational vitality helps congregations reclaim their identity through deep listening to the community around them, shaping a plan for the future and providing a foundation for continued discernment about where God is leading them.
Stewardship Training
At the heart of a vital congregation is a healthy understanding of stewardship. The Saint Paul Area Synod partners with GSB Consulting to offer two stewardship processes which bring stewardship experts who will walk with your team:
- Stewardship For All Seasons – a year-long cohort model that will take you through a general stewardship campaign as well as a special appeal looking at the key principles of being faithful in our call to be generous.
- Building a Culture of Generosity – a four-week session in the fall that will help your congregation prepare to run a general stewardship appeal.

Immigrant Support
Our immigrant siblings are currently being targeted in unjust ways simply because of the color of their skin. Learn how you can help through the synod’s Immigrant Support Fund.
