'Presence' is one of the three pillars of our Bega Kwa Bega relationship and travel is one of the ways that we bring that commitment to life. In the first six weeks of 2019 we have already hosted more than 100 guests on visits to the Iringa Diocese from a variety of schools, congregations, and programs. Turning our attention to the future, we look forward to welcoming a dozen different delegations throughout the summer and the fall.
For many group members, travel to Tanzania is a trip of a lifetime - full of adventure and challenges. For many group leaders, the call to facilitate such experiences carries with it its own set of risks and rewards. Recognizing that reality, the Iringa Committee and BKB Program Team are eager to introduce Travel Group Leader Training Sessions beginning this spring. Whether you are a seasoned veteran, a newly appointed group leader, or someone curious about where to start, we are here to help!
The two-hour training will include new materials to help you prepare yourself and your travelers for the journey. This training will be held at the Saint Paul Area Synod office (105 University Ave W, St. Paul) on Thursday, March 28 from 6:30-9:00 pm and Saturday, April 6 from 9:00 - 11:30 am; participants need only come to one of those dates. In addition to connecting with the Rev. Peter Harrits, director of BKB, and the travel coordinators, you'll also receive an updated "So you're going to Tanzania" guide, a group leader checklist covering advance preparations and in-country responsibilities, a traveler's covenant, and a budgeting worksheet. Additionally, several "what-if" scenarios and "how-to" discussions will be covered to boost your confidence.
This is the first offering of this training session with the plan to make it regularly available in the fall and spring each year going forward. Sign up for either the March 28th or April 6th training session by following this link. Contact peter.harrits@spas-elca.org with any questions.
We look forward to seeing you there!
