Together in Faith

Date posted: Tuesday 13 February 2018

Many of the leaders of the ILAG recently gathered for a retreat at the Lutheran Center in Guatemala City. Santos Chun Che of Iglesia Luterana Agustina Mensajeros de Cristo in Santa Elena wrote this letter with Lenten greetings to all of us in this global companionship. His letter is available in Spanish here.
I greet you cordially and I wish you blessings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Thanks and peace to you in this process of preparing for Lent and blessings to you in this journey and accompaniment together in the faith.
At this retreat I have learned a lot about our themes: the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit. I now realize that the skills I have are a gift that God has given me through his grace. I know that I must cultivate them. I must continue working so that they bear good fruits, always seeking the common good of the church. All of the leaders here have also learned that there are many challenges in this work. We must watch out for the most contagious sin, bitterness, a sin caused by pride.
I also want to inform you that the climate in our country is worrisome. The constant rains have caused the flooding of our crops, truly putting at risk the food of our family.
I thank you and the ILAG pastoral team for the support you have given us to carry out these retreats and those that will happen in the future.
I hope you will pray for our pastors, leaders, church councils and the entire faith community, so that we can work in unity. In like manner, we pray for you here.
