Mary Smith

Director of Communications

Mary Smith joined the staff in March of 2019 on an interim basis to get the synod through Synod Assembly later in the spring. She was hired in a more permanent capacity post-assembly. She is a graduate of Augustana in Sioux Falls, SD. She has been a church staff member as a director of Christian education, volunteer newsletter editor and wedding assistant. Much of her career has been with not-for-profit associations. She and her husband, Randy, live in Apple Valley and have two grown children. Mary is an avid reader, handbell choir member and neighborhood walker who questions the necessity of desserts that aren't chocolate.

In her role as director of communications, Mary:

produces the weekly News & Events email, which is sent every Monday morning
manages the website and social media accounts
oversees development of print and digital materials for synod programs and events
facilitates networking and learning opportunities for congregation coordinators in the synod
when it's not a pandemic, you might see her with a camera at synod events
