Director of Faith Formation

Reports to: Associate Pastor

Collaborates with: Pastors, Council teams, staff and volunteer lay leaders and the congregation as a whole

Hours: Full-time including Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings and occasional weekend/evening hours as needed

FSLA classification: Exempt; Eligible for Portico Benefits



Objectives / Accountability



· Develop action steps for the congregation to engage more deeply in outreach, worship, and learning

· Oversee all CYF ministries:

o Manage and lead the Confirmation program with the Associate Pastor

o Direct Sunday School learning and summer camps

· Oversee and coordinate all outreach ministries

· Develop, equip, and support volunteers/chaperones with Volunteer Coordinator

Responsibilities & Tasks



1. Outreach, mission, and service engagement

a. Liaison between mission partners and congregation

b. Provide training, support, and mentoring for those exploring deeper engagement with mission partners

c. Create regular opportunities for congregants to work together in acts of service

d. Design, plan and implement summer mission trips and field trips

e. Integrate outreach opportunities into Worship and learning experiences of all ages

2. Learning

a. Youth (6th – 12th grade)

i. Coordinate with Associate Pastor in teaching and leading the Confirmation program

ii. Assist in occasional overnight youth events to develop and nurture relationships

iii. Direct and coordinate summer camp opportunities

iv. Create High School student engagement opportunities

b. Children (Pre-school – 5th grade)

i. Oversee and Direct Children’s Sunday School staff and volunteers

ii. Direct and coordinate summer camp opportunities

iii. Develop family developmental learnings (i.e. First Communion, etc.)

3. Worship

a. Integrate all age worship leadership and engagement with Pastors

b. Integrate outreach, mission, and service opportunities

4. Other

a. Collaborate with staff in wide range Communications

b. Use of technology to gather above groups

c. Attend Staff meetings

d. Coordinate with Young adult and adult learning

e. Plan all above according to Advent and CDC safety policies

i. Implement technology into in-person, hybrid or virtual programs

f. Assist in keeping database current

g. Other duties as assigned (a whatever it takes frame of mind)






· Strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the ministry at Advent

· Engagement with mission work

· Experience working with youth

· Bachelor's Degree

· Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills

· Energetic and fun

· Ability to work both collaboratively and independently

· Understanding of Lutheran (ELCA) theology
