Communications and Office Manager

Job description



Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd is looking for a Communications and Office Manager to lead communications internally with members and externally with the wider community, as well as perform duties to support the daily business of the church.

Responsibilities will include sharing the congregation’s story, engaging with members and staff, managing the daily organizational tasks with an eye to energizing excitement, involvement, and joy in our mission and ministries.

To be successful in this role, you must be willing to be the ‘go to ’person and have a can-do attitude.

Digital Communication



· Oversee and lead efforts to craft and deliver weekly email.

· Maintain communication with service providers.

· Coordinate messaging being delivered to church members that is clear, concise, and compelling.



Print Communication



· Prepare bulletins for weekly and special worship services.

· Create cards, flyers, posters, and other print media as needed.






· Ensure weekly/monthly website updates are accurate and timely.

· Coordinate with leadership to manage the Squarespace calendar.



Church Technology



· Oversee and assist with utilization of church digital resources including church televisions, zoom accounts, and other audio-visual equipment.

· Provide technical support to individuals using church technological resources including computers, copiers, televisions, etc.



Building and Event Point of Contact



· Collaborate with staff and vendors to ensure events and services are appropriately provided.

· Interface with all groups making use of the church building.

· Maintain church calendars.

· Coordinate with custodial staff on room/area set-up and tear-down for events.

· Administer policies and procedures concerning the use of all church facilities.

· Supervise custodial staff.

· Coordinate with Building Manager to engage with outside vendors for all repair, maintenance or purchases for facility including heating and cooling systems, kitchen equipment, etc. Orders equipment/supplies as needed.

· Work with Property Committee to keep facility updated and in good repair.

· Assist with coordinating security for the building.

· Serve as general point of contact for facility questions.



Other Responsibilities



· Supervise the volunteer office receptionists.

· Supervise the bus driver team.

· Perform duties of volunteer office receptionist when the receptionist is not present.

· Support the designated coordinator of the Sunday Morning Service teams.

· Interface with the Welcome Center Host team.

· Work with Ministry Staff, as needed, in planning special events on Sunday mornings.

· Coordinate bulk mailings.

· Order office and worship/ministry supplies.

· Participate in weekly staff meetings.

· Maintain office equipment – poster meter, copier, phone system, etc. (works with in-house IT support and contracted IT company when necessary.)

· Other general duties as necessary or assigned.






· Excellent Organizational Skills

· Proficiency in MS Office and Squarespace

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to keep sensitive matters confidential

· A degree in Communications or relevant field is a plus

· A spirit of curiosity about the missions and members of this congregation
