Hymn Contest

Calling musicians and the musically inclined:

Compose an original praise song or hymn for use at the Saint Paul Area Synod’s 2020 Synod Assembly!

Parameters:

  • A song or hymn for congregational singing in praise of God using 21st century language
  • Original words and music or original words to a hymn in the public domain
  • Your song or hymn should employ rich biblical imagery, thoughtful theology, and inclusive language for God; you should avoid clichés and well-worn phrases (such as “Jesus, my friend,” “Father God,” “Jesus, my King,” “Jesus, my Lord,” “awesome God,” etc.)
  • It should be easy for most voices to sing!
  • While it is not required for you to be present at the 2020 Synod Assembly (May 15-16), we would love if you could be there to lead the Assembly in singing your song!
  • You will need to grant permission for one-time use at the 2020 Synod Assembly and one-time use by congregations in the Saint Paul Area Synod during 2020.

Format:

Audio file (mp3) + printed copy of lyrics and music
