"Hearing the Stories of Refugees" | Featured Speaker Kao Kalia Yang
Author Kao Kalia Yang is a writer of memoirs and children’s stories, a librettist, public speaker and teacher. Her books include The Latehomecomer: a Hmong Family Memoir, The Song Poet: a Memoir of my Father, Somewhere in the Unknown World, A Map Into the World, The Most Beautiful Thing and other literature.
Kao Kalia received the American Library Association’s Asian/Pacific American Literary Award for Children’s Literature, and four Minnesota Book Awards among many other awards for her writing across genres. She is a recipient of the Sally Award for Social Impact from the Ordway Center for Performing Arts and the A.P. Anderson Award for her significant contributions to the cultural and artistic life of Minnesota. She is a Soros, McKnight, and Guggenheim fellow. Learn more about Kao Kalia.
Following her presentation, Kao Kalia will participate in a curated conversation with several Lutheran pastors who also came to America as refugees.
