Our relationship with the Iringa Diocese is built on the pillars of Prayer, Presence, and Projects. While our ability to be present with one another is diminished and the pace of projects slows down, as this letter from Bishop Gaville of the ELCT Iringa Dicoese indicates, we now are called to focus our attention and efforts across this partnership on the practice of mutual prayer.
Dear our beloved friends in Jesus Christ:
Receive our warm and tender heart of prayers and empathy in this tragedy of Coronavirus and COVID-19. In Iringa and Tanzania at large, the whole week is the week of prayers for you, our beloved ones, and all over the world for the great catastrophe tormenting the church of Christ as whole.
For us in Africa, knowing that there are friends who cannot gather for worship service, cannot shake hands, cannot come close to discuss important matters, no meetings, no conferences, etc. it is so painful. What I know is our Lord God is in control. God will do the best always for the church and for the whole world.
Even in Tanzania, all schools from kindergarten to form six are closed since 17th March 2020, and later on 18th March, all the colleges and Universities in Tanzania were officially closed. It is very hard to explain the situation. But we hold you all in our prayers. We continue insisting all the congregations to keep on praying for this situation, continue listening and following the instructions given by the government.
2 Chron 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land (ASV).
I know it is very hard moment in ministry, in the office and at congregation levels since there is a lot to do.
Once again, know that we are with you in prayers. I hope this is a wonderful gift that God bestowed to us, and we meet each other spiritually in prayers alone.
Yours in Christ,
Bishop Gaville
