Compelled by God’s love, we work to alleviate hunger in all of God’s world by prompting congregations and their members to practice generosity and to advocate for a just sharing of the world’s abundance.

As the mission statement reflects, the focus of the hunger work group is twofold: first, the direct relief of hunger, and second, advocacy on behalf of those who have no voice. The hunger work group is aligned itself with the synod’s Ending Poverty leadership team. This natural alignment provides the hunger work group a formal home within the synod structure, while adding national and international dimensions to the work of the Ending Poverty leadership team. the work group is dedicated to promoting congregational support for the ELCA World Hunger Appeal and for public policies that relieve poverty and hunger both at home and around the world.
